Child Immunizations
Immunizations are a way to protect children from getting numerous illnesses. Many of these illnesses are easily spread from child to child and can cause serious health problems or death. Because immunization programs of the 20th and 21st century have been so successful, many of today’s parents have never seen many vaccine-preventable diseases and do not understand the potential for them to re-emerge. If too many individuals choose not to vaccinate their children, some diseases that are now rare or non-existent in this country may resurface. Children should get immunized during their first two years of life and beyond based on an immunization schedule. Your child may need several doses of some vaccines to be fully protected.c
School Immunizations
Effective June 21, 2017, the Immunizations Program with the Kentucky Department for Public Health published recent changes to 902 KAR 2:060 Immunization schedules for attending child day care centers, certified family child care homes, other licensed facilities which care for children, preschool programs, and public and private primary and secondary schools, which can be found at the following link: https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/kar/902/002/060.pdf. This amended Kentucky Administrative Regulation requires all children to have a current immunization certificate on file, contains the required immunizations schedule for attending, and has a process to obtain a religious exemption from the required immunizations!
